Historic Tax Credits: Local, State, and Federal (March 2021)
Did you know that there are property and other tax benefits available to historic properties in San Antonio? This class covers the local tax incentive program including how to apply, properties that qualify, and local examples, presented by Rachel Rettaliata of the Office of Historic Preservation. Valerie Magolan from the Texas Historical Commission provides an overview of the state and federal historic tax credits. Ellis Mumford-Russell from Post Oak Preservation Solutions shares projects that have taken advantage of state and federal tax credits to revitalize local structures, places, and spaces.

Working with an Architect (January 2021)
When pursuing the restoration or renovation of an existing or historic home, one of the many considerations is whether to hire an architect. Taught by local registered architect Scott Carpenter of Seventh Generation Design, this class provides a practical understanding of the many roles and qualifications of an architect, best practices in designing a space in an existing structure, project scopes and their associated fee structures, and more. This class primarily focuses on the architect’s role in a renovation project, but several concepts can be transferrable to new construction.
